Larger Cans Are Not a Better Value – Don’t Take the Bait!
If you’ve been approached by a Slide competitor touting their larger can sizes and how they represent a better value, don’t take the bait. They will try to convince you that their 20 fluid ounce can delivers more product than Slide’s standard 16 fluid ounce container. This is a misleading sales tactic that focuses on packaging, not performance or value.
The Science of Quantity: Propellant vs. Formula
The truth is in the propellant. Our competitors rely heavily on a high volume of CO2 (carbon dioxide) to fill their larger cans. This CO2 takes up a considerable amount of interior space; their bulkier container is simply required to hold the same amount of actual silicone formula as Slide’s standard can.
Slide's advanced packaging technique allows for maximizing the active ingredient – the actual silicone you need to mold parts – providing 16 fluid ounces of guaranteed usable formula every single time.
Wasted Product
In addition to the issue of can volume, a CO2-laden propelling system directly contributes to product waste on your mold floor. So, please keep these facts in mind before falling for the “jumbo can” pitch:
Excessive Force: That high-pressure CO2 forces the release agent out of the can too rapidly, often resulting in a wide, messy spray pattern that misses the target or runs down the mold face.
Wasted Product: Our factory expert, Juan Grino, explains that this aggressive expulsion can squander up to 70% of a product being used, thus causing operators to exhaust supplies quickly and order more frequently than would be necessary.
When evaluating mold release, the most significant number is price per molded part. A bigger canister is expensive to ship, takes up extra storage space and loses product due to a hit-or-miss delivery system. Don't let distorted packaging claims lure you into a false narrative. Slide is known for providing superior product concentration with precision application and a true lower cost per part. If you’re approached by a vendor or distributor with this misleading message, be sure you know all the facts.
The holidays are approaching quickly, and we’d like to update our customers about our schedule. For Thanksgiving, we’ll be closed on Thursday and Friday, November 27 & 28. And for the Christmas season, Slide will shut down between Christmas and New Year, closing end of business day on December 23 and reopening on Monday, January 5.
This is a tradition we’ve been observing for the past 10 years as a great opportunity for our team to spend time with their families. We’ll process and ship any orders received prior to closing, but please provide as much lead time as possible.
We wish all of our customers and associates a healthy, restful holiday season and a prosperous 2026!
