Anti-Seize compounds are essential products for mold makers, mold maintenance techs and others who work with metal materials. These formulations help keep machinery running smoothly by alleviating corrosion and subsequent galling/seizing on bolts, flanges, fasteners and other clamped surfaces.

Proper selection and application of an anti-seize compound provides many benefits:

  • Lubrication of surfaces during operation to reduce wear
  • Help prevent damage to components during assembly and disassembly
  • Protection against rust and corrosion
  • Reduces friction and torque, lubricates surfaces at high temperatures
  • Resists thread damage, seizing and galling at high temperatures
  • Increases performance, temperature stability and protection of components

To best protect the interfaces within a given assembly, a thin layer of anti-seize compound should be applied to each surface (typically around 0.1mm thick). These may include bolt or stud threaded and unthreaded sections, the nut face, and the washer if one is used. All surfaces should be clean and decontaminated before any application begins.

It is not necessary to re-apply anti-seize unless equipment is disassembled, at which time the components should be cleaned and the application of the compound can be re-done.

Slide Anti-Seize Products

The newest copper anti-seize compound (No. 479) was formulated with significantly more metallic and other solids than similar formulations currently available. It is heat stable to temperatures up to 1800°F (982°C). When used on threaded areas during assembly, the product stands up for extended periods, even if subjected to high loads and temperatures. It will remain on the threads to help prevent corrosion and ease dismantling.

Compatible with most metals and plastics, the compound allows technicians to salvage damaged or threaded parts and won’t harden, drip or separate.

Slide’s original aluminum anti-seize compound (No. 480) was created with an aluminum base to help prevent dissimilar metals from fusing together. This formula also stops galling and seizing, is water resistant, reduces friction and lubricates metal surfaces to 2000°F (1093°C).

Both compounds are packaged in 2-oz and 8-oz brush top cans and free trial samples are available.
